From time to time, I pull up the website to see what is happening. This time I was reading about Vic Valeriano and his acceptance into the Ranger Hall of Fame. I didn't know Vic, in the Company in Vietnam, but, I certainly knew of him and his accomplishments as an Infantry soldier and as a Ranger of the 196TH LRRP Det (Abn)(Prov), Det(A) LRRP 23RD Inf (Prov) and Co E (LRP)51ST Inf, 75TH Ranger Inf (CARS). I feel great pride due to the fact that Vic was in the company and the fact that he is an Islander. I can identify with that because of my mother being an Islander as well.
With that said, I wish Vic his due. Congratulations are in order and an honor which is fitting of his stature. To the others of the early formation of this company, especially Dave Travis. Being a part of the Ranger Community has always been with the LRRPs. It was decided so in 1958. Assets, such as LRRP personnel to form the 75TH Ranger Infantry CARS had been addressed in 1956,1958-1961, 1965-1967 and was approved on 28 December 1968 officially affected on 1 January, 1969. Therefore, LRRPs are Rangers and proof was first seen in a unit called "Church's Ranging Men" (Church's Rangers) the year 1678. Rangers came from Ranging men and Long Ranging Reconnaissance Patrols (LRRP) Knowlton's Rangers 1776. We as LRRPs never operated as Battalions but certainly operated exactly like Ranger Companies of the Korean War. The Battalion operations would not being until 1974 under re-organization into the 1ST and 2ND Ranger Battalions. Our Regiment's history did not start with us as a company or Detachment, but as the 5307TH Composite and the OSS. We just made the 75TH Infantry (Airborne) from our combined assets as Airborne units. Again, Congratulations Vic, a well deserved Award.

Found the site with no compass just kept looking. Just wanted to say hello to all the warriors from G Co Rangers. I kinda stay lost in my own world as there is no team like what we all had in Nam. I keep my back to the wall and it's getting very old. Would like to hear from some of you if you get the time to answer. If anyone sees Beach say hello. That goes for everyone but brother Beach was always out of touch and on the far edge of the map if you know what I mean. Wishing all of you the best and smooth thoughts. Pervert

Captain Larron D. Murphy crashed in a Cobra helicopter on April 23, 1970. If anyone is familiar with the LRRP team members that were under attack that night, I would like to make contact with you to get your perspective regarding what happened that night. Capt. Larron Murphy is still listed as MIA/POW. Captain Murphy was trying to provide fire support for a LRRP team possibly from Company E 51st Infantry LRRP 23rd Infantry Division, when he radioed that he was crashing. It would be gratefully appreciated if anyone could provide a name or email address to someone who could point me in the right direction to making contact with one or more persons on that LRRP team on April 23, 1970.

WWL-TV and the New Orleans television community is mourning the death of video photographer John Fritzinger. "Fritz," as he was known to friends and colleagues, passed away early Tuesday of an apparent heart attack. A 15-year veteran at WWL-TV, Fritz wore many hats. He covered everything from the Oklahoma City bombing, to Frank Davis' "Naturally N'Awlins" pieces. Fritz also shot the Fishing Game Report along with prep football, Saints and LSU games. Before coming to WWL-TV, Fritz worked at WVUE-TV where he shot the station's series of reports from Medjugorie.
The past two weeks Fritz was in the trenches covering hurricane Lili and tropical storm Isidore. He served as an Army Ranger in the Vietnam War before beginning a career as a TV photojournalist. He was 55 years old. Funeral arrangements are Thursday night at the Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home at 4747 Veterans in Metairie visitation from 5-8 p.m., with a service at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Press Club of New Orleans scholarship fund. The Press Club plans to establish a scholarship for a local college photojournalism student, in John Fritzinger's name.
